I'm not any better

How are all of you? I see you buried in your books every morning and with the recent news of one of your classmates' recent bereavement, and one other feeling she can't take it any more, I am somewhat concerned about how you are coping.

I know you are all high achievers and you give yourself lots of pressure to perform. Some of you will be able to withstand the stress of forcing your brains to perform optimally in these 2 weeks. Some of you will begin to see fault lines in your usual composed demeanour. The latter group is a source of worry for me and I want to be able to help you if I can. So do come and talk to me if you are one of them. I can't perform miracles but I can try to show you some light in the tunnel you are in.

One student asked me how I can be so relaxed with my daughter where her studies is concerned. You don't know how far from the truth you are. I am not exactly so nonchalant about my daughter's studies. I am anxious, impatient and even paranoid at times. I just try not to consciously pass my neurotic inclinations to her. Because she's only in Pri 2 and I don't want her to feel demoralised at such a young age. So I rein in my frustrations, and I pray a lot to God for patience and gentleness when I deal with her. I also tell myself not to be sucked into the relentless pursuit of academic excellence at the expense of her own self-esteem and enjoyment of life. It is a very conscious effort I make. Sometimes I manage to do it, sometimes I lose it too. I haven't told you how I threw her books on the floor in anger once when she took too long to finish her homework? That is not one of my proudest moments.

So do be a little patient with your parents or whoever is giving you a lot of stress. It's not easy I know and not all parents are reasonable all the time. If your parents do not care about you, they won't even bother to pay attention to how you're doing academically, right?

When the going gets tough, talk to someone. And focus on other things for a change. Take life one day at a time.

thats an obstacle we all have to face someday =l *sigh.. Anyway, all parents will be pissed over their own child one way or another. Its like bread and butter. You'll grow up saying i won't treat my child the same way as my parents treat me, but they always end up doing the thing. It's natural =_=

Hi! I don't know who you are but sounds like you are in JC now? Perhaps you could share with my readers how bad is JC stress compared to Sec Sch stress?

Danfan:
I meant that some of you are cracking up, breaking down.... Not a good sign seeing as this is just the mid-year exams. You still have a few more months to go so you need to compose yourself and not get break down (not YOU in particular. I mean a generic 'you'.)

i am chun hong... lolx.. my nick is DS lo.. lolx.. hmm.. i strongly recommend pple nt to go jc.. lolx.. basically, there're 2 reasons y i tink tt.. first thing is the stress.. altho in jc, u take fewer subjects than u do in sec, but the content is really a lot more deeper.. for bio students, its typical for u to memorise everything even if u do nt noe wad it actually means, its the same in jc.. but the content is a whole lot more and is pure memo work.. phys requires more of just understand how concepts work.. cuz u will get a whole lot of formulas where u haf to identify when u use them on diff situations, nt to forget the definitions and laws of phys u haf to memo. chem is memo and apply.. sounds simple in words, but is hard in action.. then there's the foreva headache GP which for some pple, u nvr seem to pass it.. reading newspaper isnt sufficient at all.. my GP tutor said to my class 'straits times is for pri and sec kids, nt for jc students. if u tink reading straits times can get u a lot of general knowledge, then u're wrong.' and truth is, its real.. also, since u're nt gonna get narrative/recount type qns, a lot of pple who scored A in sec eng, can possibly get a AO/E/F for gp.. becuz all the beautiful describing words they can use, might nt be useful for argumentative qns at all.. those r mainly wad subjects i took in jc.. oh and, u do get tonnes of hw everyday. if in any event u did nt finish the work for tt day, u will find tt ur workload keeps piling up.. like a nvr ending pit.. to add on is project work.. ever tink u can write a 1000 word report? well, u will do tt in PW.. pple hu luv project work will find it easier i guess.. but, when ur project is meeting its deadline for submission for checking and u haf those regular class test, common test etc etc, u will find it stressful. the nxt reason is nt exactly a reason i tink.. for those hu wanna persue a jc edu, pls tink over it for quite some time.. tis happens to me.. jc edu in my opinion, is an edu for those people hu r determined. its becuz if u dun, u will somehow in the middle of ur jc edu, find tt u're lost and dunno wad u wanna do or worse, dunno wad u wan at all.. always be clear tt if u entered jc, ur objective is uni! no other route le.. jc cert is useless if u dun haf uni cert.. its nowhere near a poly diploma.. wad really happened to me is ya, i got lost halfway during my jc edu and ya, i find tt its 'books intensive' type isnt really the right thing for me.. i cant memorise tt well unlike others and so, i din do tt well.. so, for those in 4/1 now ya, do tink over jc and poly with great consideration.. can u memorise things well and dun forget them aft the exams? r u able to work consistently hard for 2 yrs w/o fail? can u study smartly rather than just pure do do and do? can u take intense pressure for a period of say 1yr? do u even like 'books intensive' edu sys? lastly, r u a determined person? if u can say no to those qns, its best tt u dun go jc.. cuz its basically, a waste of ur time..

Whether u re the teacher or student, it looks pretty cool to me right now watching u guys from my point.. Muahaha!!

Like it or not, you have to face it.. Take it from a better point la.. Considering from the average lifespan here, all of us have a loony long way to go..

I'm not saying not to take matters seriously.. But just open your heart more.. Accept things as they come, eg having teachers staring at you when u re studying..!! I think u ll have a better life..

Oh and please don't blame me for creating a subject here to argue alright? =P

To: ds
Its cool for u to get into a JC, although after so much complaining I do not know where u ve landed...

Stress is unavoidable, wherever u are (in a more aggressive tone) my darling..!!! Though I have the tendency but I am very reluctant to start a Joyce's Poly Life account but stress is there, too.. *Duh~*

I can't give the 'How to get to the right path of your life' sort of stuff for I am maybe the only nonchalant person back then.. Not because I couldn't be bothered, but for goodness gracious sake I knew what I wanted.. No doubts I made some regret-able decisions but I knew I was on the right path..

It boils down to the individuals.. Their own character, mind-set, etc.. Determination? If u think u are on the right path or if u think this is the path u want to take whether its right or not, and u do not think that u have the determination.. Make do with some peer pressure.. From err, friends with determination of cause, if thats what u re lacking in..
--The End--

P.S- I aren't preaching.. I'm just being, heheheh, myself..!! Lalalala~~

Yeah. And danfan, no need to be SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO damn bloody obsessed with teachers, especially one. At least you weren't THAT obsessed with hairy otter... Teachers are teachers, I seriously doubt any of them (no offense) are really bothered about EVERY SECOND of your life (unlike you...).

HOW MANY TIMES NEED I SAY THIS?
STOP ANNOUNCING TO THE WHOLE BLOODY WORLD ABOUT YOUR BLOODY OBSESSION.

I care less if every teacher in the whole world stares at you and freak you out.

I'm tired of trying to be polite, danfan. Don't make me really start yelling.

Yes I DO MIND having to explain the difference between the purple form and the yellow form.

I mind because I think you are all getting obsessed over nothing.

I am going to start yelling (like shdwhawk) if you all don't start focussing on the really important things -- like studying for your MT O level exams!!!
